ADIMALI: Hassles of appeal are not hampering the smooth conduct of the youth festival with no appeal arising till 5 pm on Friday. Most number of appeals were expected on the second day with dance events like group dance, mohiniyattom and Thiruvathira dominating the day. On the first day three appeals were received by the jury appeal committee in Mohiniyattom and Folk Dance and all of them were rejected by the committee as they were on unsustainable grounds. The organizers of the festival got richer by Rs 6,000 as each appeal had to accompany a deposit of Rs 2,000. However they could not get richer today.

One judge at the mohiniyattom venue was taken to hospital after her BP went down and felt uneasiness. She was replaced by another judge. Though minor complaints arose towards conclusion none resulted in appeal. On the Mimicry stage, Narendra Modi was the latest attraction beginning with his address ‘meri pyari desh vassiyom’. His latest address to the nation by withdrawing the currency notes also was relished by the audience with a thunderous applause. The Swachh Bharat campaign also was featured.  The anti-smoking ad which says your lungs will turn like sponge which is showed in movie halls also was imitated by the students.

Some of the contestants try to mimick Hollywood heroes. After Modi in demand was Oommen Chandy and Vellappalli Natesan while actor Vinay Forte also got his due. The run of the mill chirping of birds and sounds of animals too visited the event.  Aditya S Ajay, the ninth standard student of Kollam Sree Naryana School won the first prize in cartoon competition which put the stray dog menace as subject. Maneka Gandhi and singer Renjini Haridas were hilariously portrayed in it. Aditya did not forget to portray that the real cause of stray dog menace is waste. One complaint about the festival was some of the events like mridangam and guitar were held in classrooms and hence some who wished to see them could not. A total of 17,000 people have been served with meals in the festival so far, according to the organizers. The health department officials conducted a check at the festival in the day and returned a happy lot.
