KFC, you are being sorely missed – at least in UK. It seems that the popular fried chicken brand shutting down two-thirds of its stores over shortage has not gone down very well with foodies, many of whom are likening it to the arrival of the four horsemen of the apocalypse - Death, Famine, War, and Conquest – thus marking the beginning of the end of days.

For some Twitter users, KFC running out of chicken in two-thirds of its stores across the nation is the clearest sign yet that the end of the world is coming.

Since KFC shut down 600 out of its 900 stores

After 600 out of 900 stores were closed today, chicken-hungry individuals already suffering from withdrawal symptoms took to Twitter to post hilarious memes.

Using the hashtag #KFCCrisis, users mocked the overreaction of Brits when they couldn't get their favourite fast food.

One user Aurie Styla tweeted: 'So wait... KFC is STILL OUT OF CHICKEN?!? Their connect ain't acting right!!! How can you be out of the one thing you are known for selling?!?'

Another individual tweeted a still from the movie Chicken Run, a comedy film about the exploits of a group of chickens as they attempt to escape from a farm, with the caption 'Frrrrreeeeedom!!!'.

And Leem cannot help but point towards vegans,

For many, the 'crisis' was all they could think about today.

One individual wrote: 'Never mind Brexit. #KFCCrisis is the most important issue in the country at the moment. The Colonel would be spinning in his grave (like a rotisserie chicken).'

Others expected people to start selling off buckets of chicken for extortionate prices as supplies plummeted.

The KFC UK and Ireland Twitter account tweeted explaining why stores were closed, saying: 'We’ve brought a new delivery partner onboard, but they’ve had a couple of teething problems – getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex!'
