Hyderabad’s IT corridor is buzzing with year-end party spirit these days. Says B. Chaitanya from a leading MNC, “A Christmas party was organised at my client’s office last week and this week, it is being celebrated in my office. The last two weeks of the year is mandatory furlough for all.”

A few of the major MNCs seem to have taken their end-of-year office parties to the next level with lavish celebrations. Companies like Capgemini and Deloitte are organising Christmas and New Year bashes with games, music and various cultural events. While office talents are enjoying their time in the spotlight, others are shaking a leg to popular numbers.

A techie from Deloitte shares, “The winter fest had some really good music and dance performances. It felt great to enjoy and relax with my colleagues, who are otherwise running to meet tight deadlines all year.”

Meanwhile, many other companies have been cutting costs and organising office parties on a smaller scale, amid instability and layoffs. Never the less, office gifting rituals, food and cakes, along with team building activities are being celebrated with gusto by small teams too this Christmas.

Says Akanksha Mehta, from a small firm, “We organise a Christmas party every year for the team, which is something that we all look forward to. This year, we plan to engage the team with DIY Christmas trees. We just want everyone to participate and loosen up a bit.”

It’s not just fun and games for all, however, as a few firms also have to stay open and work through this party season. K. Manasa from a financial firm rues, “There is no party for the lot of us! We have a lot of workload to deal with.”

With each company choosing to celebrate the end of a year in its own way, it goes without saying that year-end office parties certainly help to muster up team spirit, gearing the workforce up for next year.
