World pie-eating champion retains title for third year
Martin Appleton-Clare clinched victory for the fourth time after downing a meat and potato pie in just 32 seconds.
London: The world pie-eating champion has eaten his way to victory for the third consecutive year after setting a new record.
According to Mirror, Martin Appleton-Clare clinched victory for the fourth time after downing a meat and potato pie in just 32 seconds.
Clare participated in the Wigan World Pie Eating Championships, which took place at Harry's Bar in Wigan.
Appleton-Clare easily beat last year's winning time of 45.5 seconds.
The fastest woman this year was Vicky Lindley who recorded a time of one minute and 30 seconds.
Before 2006 the competition, which has been running for more than 20 years, was who could eat the most pies in a set time but the rules were changed to comply with government healthy eating guidelines.
The much-loved contest is an annual fixture on the town's Christmas calendar and made global headlines last year when organisers sent a pie into space attached to a weather balloon.
