Scary tales of nature's wrath
Friday's gale force winds threw life in the city out of gear, uprooting trees and causing massive damage to property.
“It was quite scary. The gale was just for a minute, but the devastation it left in its wake is something I still haven’t been able to fathom.
“I had walked into my living room to pick up a few electronics when a big French window, which was bolted, began to shudder with the wind’s ferocity. Suddenly, the window’s bolt gave way and three out of the six panels, wood and glass included, flew six feet into my house. Mind you, all this happened in a span of 30 seconds.
“A couple of flying shards of glass cut my leg. I rushed to the hospital and got it treated. Thinking the ordeal for the night was over, I got back home. Then I felt an annoying sensation in my ear. When I checked, I realised there was a piece of glass stuck.
It was a rude shock. When I and my husband started from home, there were no signs of wind or rain. When we were on the KBR Road, the wind suddenly started gusting and before we realised, it was pouring. We were on the road and suddenly a tree crashed on our car.
My first thought was whether to stay in the car or get out. My husband decided it was safer for us to get out of the car. He managed to get out and then helped me out. Our car was crushed but thankfully we were unscathed.”
