KOZHIKODE: With the aim of introducing a kitchen garden in all households, the Save Green Agriculturists Welfare Cooperative Society in Kozhikode conducted ‘Adukkalathottam’, an agriculture fair, here on Friday. The fair turned out to be a one-stop destination for setting up a kitchen garden.  Raw materials, technical support were all provided during the fair. A huge crowd thronged the Town Hall premises to be part of the fair and learn more about kitchen gardening. As part of the fair, green kits that have 12 grow bags filled with soil and fertilizers for plant saplings were also displayed at the venue. More than 1000 grow bags were sold during the fair.

“We all have a small extra space in our house which could be easily used to make our kitchen garden”, said Nisar N, one of the organisers. “This space could be our balcony, courtyard or terrace. The plants are not going to generate a huge business possibility but they will definitely give you much more in returns than the effort we put in growing them,” he added.

The organizers also arranged a grand stall featuring saplings of various fruits along with saplings of vegetables like brinjal, tomato, cabbage and cauliflower.  The organizers also said that vegetable seeds were in great demand. More and more such fairs would be organized in the city with an aim to promote a kitchen garden and spread awareness about growing vegetables and fruits in their kitchen gardens, they added.
