Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School kids resurrect' Shakespeare

Thrissur: The students of Hari Sri Vidya Nidhi School here recreated the life and works of immortal writer William Shakespeare at an event held the other day. They made installations related to the playwright and staged the major scenes from his famous plays at the function organised by the school. The students from various classes enacted the scenes in true Shakespearean style. When Shylock demanded his pound of flesh and Lady Macbeth made a chilling sleepwalking, many a heart skipped a beat.
The assassination of Julius Caesar was done in Malayalam as the Roman senators beguiled him and finally stabbed him in the back. Mark Antony’s poignant speech pained the hearts of many and Portia’s dramatic plea reinforced the fact that the world would be a better place to live if the quality of mercy prevailed in it.
Dance and music were celebrated in the Elizabethan era as was revealed in the Scottish jig by the students, followed by the transition to modern dance performed by the senior boys. The sonnet was also celebrated as the younger students recited Sonnet 18 – “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day?” The grand finale was the fashion parade in which kings, both historical and tragic, villains, fools and romantic couples “strutted and fretted their way across the stage.” The stately language brought Shakespeare alive in the most fascinating manner.
