Hyderabad: Religious scholars are unhappy with the trend of late night weddings and are requesting people to avoid this as it is not good for health and also neighbours are harassed when wedding functions go on till late at night. Troubling someone by our behaviour is totally condemned in Islam, they say.

“Late night marriages are picking up because there is no muhurat system among Muslims,” says Maulana Abdul Zakir. “Generally the nikah is held between 5 pm and 9 pm but dinner is served very late and this should be stopped.”

He noted, “Prophet Muhammad ordered that marriages be simple and he was strictly against extravagant weddings. Because of the lavish spending and irregular timings there will be severe health problems. In some places like Tandur and Vikarabad, people have boycotted extravagant weddings and late night dinners. Why can’t Hyderabad follow the same?” Another religious scholar, Md. Abdul Azhar, said, “This mostly happens in Old City areas. In new city, it’s not so. People in new city adhere to the timings.”

“If a person eats food well before 8 pm then he will be able to wake up for early morning prayers because the food gets digested and the person will have a sound sleep. But in most weddings in Hyderabad the people are violating these standards and are spoiling their health which will be a trouble in the coming years,” noted the scholar.
