For a charitable cause
City folks converged at IIIT Hyderabad on Saturday for a one-of-a-kind charity event to raise funds for cancer patients.
On Saturday evening, a charity event called Musical Night Run was held in support of cancer patients at IIIT Hyderabad. The organiser of the event Pratima Burra said, “We are doing this to specially raise funds for cancer patients, to build classrooms and perform surgeries for children. We chose a run because the message spreads quickly.
Describing the event, Priya, a participant says, “It was not just a run, there was zumba and a music concert too. It was such a pleasure to experience this event. I always wanted to help cancer patients and this was a great opportunity for me. First, I took part in the 6K run which challenged my fitness level. The zumba session after the run was equally amazing. After the run, people usually feel tired, but this zumba session was absolutely invigorating. And the music concert was brilliant; I loved all the artists’ performances.”
Binay Deep Kaur, a Lieutenant Colonel’s wife and teacher by profession, shared, “I am here to help the needy and also have some fun.” Meanwhile, her husband, Lt Cl Navjot Kaur said that he was giving company to his wife on her first run ever. Band members of Roots, who entertained the participants with their music, said, “We are ready to do any kind of charity events because we started our career with one. If we can do something for the people, then why not?”
The event, which started at 5 pm and ended at 11 pm, saw high enthusiasm among the participants. While a few showed up just for the run, others stayed on for the live band performance.
In yet another heartening development, people from as far off as 35 km from IIIT showed up to support this charitable event. Khaja, a participant and an event manager by profession shared, “The concert was amazing but what made me even happier was to see the happy faces of the children. They enjoyed all the Telugu and Hindi songs and stayed late to help the cancer patients in their own little way. Their happy faces made my day.”
