No ‘kid’ding, she is an expert!
Eleven-year-old Priyamvada Gupta was invited to speak at Daulat Ram college on the ocassion of Women’s Day.
This child protege is just 11 and at an age where kids are hooked to technology, Priyamvada Gupta has managed to turn things around and use technology to change the way kids like her study and understand concepts. She has built an online presence under the brand name “The Minecraft Girl”. She was recently invited to speak at the prestigious college of Daulat Ram at the The University of Delhi North Campus on the occasion of women’s Day.
Like every parent of a pre-teen who is hooked to watching videos on various gadgets, Priyamvada too had her parents worried about the hours she spent on the phone. She shares, “The idea to start The Minecraft Girl was in my mind since two years. My parents kept asking me to study rather than watching videos. I wanted to please them in some way. That’s when Minecraft girl happened.”
Minecraft Girl started just because she wanted to get away from her parent’s scolding. “I used to play this game (Mindcraft) which gave me the idea to put education, learning and gaming together. That way, kids can learn while gaming. On my channel, I advise children on how they can tell adults to make a better future for us and stop polluting,” Priyamvada adds saying that her channel also contains gaming tutorials, virtual worlds that are based on particular topics etc. On the kind of subjects Priyamvada focuses on, she says, “I largely focus on sustainability and conserving the environment. I have fun with my audience at times. My main goal is to build a structure around Minecraft with education.”
Inspiration for her she says comes from all over the world. A regular consumer of dance and craft videos, Priyamvada feels that there is no concrete learning from them. She shares, “I wanted my videos to spread a message in a child-friendly manner,” she says.
Apart from being fun, Priyamvada’s videos help kids her age with education and learning skills. She explains,” I record the topics that I learn in school and that are still fresh in mind, the minute I get home. I try to explain them in a simpler manner so that kids my age can understand and get an idea of the concept.”
Apart from kids, Priyamvada tries to tell teachers how they can use games and things kids like to do to teach them new topics. She shares, “While playing a game, dopamine is produced which helps you grasp the game’s content immediately. Using this idea, it is easier for kids to learn new topics and concepts.”
Priyamvada shares that the kids who subscribe to her channel have commented that they are able to grasp topics much better now. Apart from all of this, Priyamvada also runs and global forum called Children for Sustainable Tomorrow. “Through this forum, I send messages to children and tell them how they can use their cute and innocent face to tell adults to help them create a better future and create a better life for them today,” she shares adding that the she is going to keep trying to teach kids.
A student of The National Public School, Indiranagar, Priyamvada plans to include more topics on the environment. “When kids learn from kids their age, it easier to get them to understand,” she concludes.
