Watch: Mumbai artist covers Game of Thrones theme song on tabla and it's incredible
Karan Chitra Deshmukh has used about 10 tablas to get the desired sounds for the theme song.
Mumbai: The Game of Thrones season 6 premiere has already been the talk of the town and fans just can’t stop talking about its very first episode. Are you still reeling under Lady Melisandre's secret and wondering if Jon Snow really died?
While we can’t answer these questions we have a pleasant musical treat for all the GOT fans. In the midst of the premiere, a Mumbai based percussionist Karan Chitra Deshmukh came up with a brilliant desi cover of the series’ hit theme song. Deshmukh picked the tabla as his instrument of choice to come up with this new rendition.
“I am not a Game of Thrones fan. However, just a day before its premiere, my cousin called me and asked me to make an Indian instrumental version of GOT’s theme song. I gave it a try, it was purely something I didn’t prepare for, I just had a day in hand and somehow did it,” says Karan Chitra Deshmukh to Deccan Chronicle.
Deshmukh who also dabbles in electronic fusion uploaded this new version of the Ramin Djawadi-composed GOT theme on YouTube, and much to his surprise the video has gone viral.
“The success of this video was unexpected. My followers have increased both on Facebook and YouTube. I have been getting calls from various media houses around the globe,” says Deshmukh.
He used about 10 tablas to get the desired sounds for the theme song. The cover has even won him a record deal with Storyful, a social media agency, which will be promoting his video on various channels. There are chances that Deshmukh’s video will soon be telecasted at a prime time program in US.
