Akshay Tritiya is considered an auspicious day to start new ventures, buy metal and luxury items and even get married.
Akshaya Tritiya, which will be celebrated on April 28 this year, holds special significance in Hindu mythology and beliefs. Falling once in a year, the occasion is considered auspicious as it is said to mark the beginning of the Satya Yug or the Golden era. It is also believed that the 6th incarnation of Lord Vishnu — Lord Parshuram — was born on this day. It is believed that offering prayers to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day ensures prosperity all year round.
Mythology has it that the universe was created on this day and this occasion is celebrated all across the country with much zeal and spirituality. It also marks the start of the summer season, that is why people offer umbrellas, terracotta jugs, fans, slippers and sherbet to the needy on this day.
It is also said that charity to the needy on this day helps one get rid of past sins and be blessed with a happy future. People also observe fast on this day.
