Web of life
The new Kannada web series, Honeymoon is a slice-of-life drama on two strangers who get married and go on a holiday.
With web content taking over Indian entertainment, Kannada producers too have jumped onto to the online bandwagon with fervour. Sakkath Studio, is now out with a brand new web series titled Honeymoon. Starring Nagabhushan NS and Sanjana Anand in the lead. The series is produced by the studio and Shri Muthu Cine Services headed by Niveditha Shiva Rajkumar, daughter of actor Shiva Rajkumar. RJ Pradeep, founder of the studio, says, “After our first web series Loose Connection, we tried out edgier content with Dr Pal and then also produced South India’s biggest web-series, Hate Your Romeo which is an adventure comedy. This time, we wanted to try something that will ride high on emotions, which is also close to reality and the life of every couple that’s about to start their new life. That’s when we wrote Honeymoon.”
A tale of two strangers who come together as husband and wife, Honeymoon isn’t just about ‘what happens inside the room’. “We wanted to showcase what couples go through emotionally in the six nights seven days package — how they share their ideologies and come back with a proper plan to restart their life as husband and wife. We’ve narrated the entire story in a naturally comical way,” reveals Pradeep.
While the original concept and the first episode draft was written by Pradeep, the show was later handed over to Nagabhushana for screenplay and dialogues. “When he narrated his version, the entire team felt it would be better if he played the lead. We then asked him to write a version keeping himself as lead in mind. We had to look for a proper Kannada girl who suited the script. We called for auditions and received over 700 profiles, out of which 50 of them who suited the character were called for the screen test. Sanjana, who had recently acted in a movie was good with spot improvisation and we chose her. Since the series is shot with sync sound technology, we wanted the characters to speak perfect Kannada,” shares Pradeep.
Directed by Vikram Yoganand, who is also the cinematographer along with Rahul Roy, the background score and soundtrack have been composed by Vaibhav Vasuki. While Pradeep, who has edited the series expresses his gratitude to Shiva Rajkumar and his wife Geetha who’ve encouraged the growth of Kannada digital content, co-producer Niveditha says, “As a youngster, I’ve always wanted to create content in my regional language to compete with national level experiments and entertain our people with concepts that are appealing to our nativity and sensibilities.”
