Soldier gives hilarious list of masculine' excuses after being denied leave request
His commanding officer told him that 'men don't baby showers'.
Patriarchy often sets bizarre limitations on what both the sexes can do and even what they should enjoy. This viral post about an army man’s rejected leave application to attend a baby shower totally drives the point home. An Army Specialist from the US army posted his leave request on Reddit that showed that the reason he was denied time off was that baby showers are not really meant for men.
A screenshot of the application showed the original reason, ‘baby shower’, cancelled out and the sentence ‘men don’t go to baby showers’ written in red ink presumably by his superior. The soldier then posted another leave request application where he gave ‘manly’ reasons that would have hopefully gotten him a yes. The new application read: “Going home to the Appalachian mountains to drink whiskey, wrestle bears, and shoot lots of guns. I also plan to grow out a beard, chop down a hundred trees with my axes and eat 10lb of thick cut bacon with my wife, who I plan to have lots of unprotected sex with, because I am a man and that's just what we do. Football.”
The post quickly went viral and garnered a positive response from fellow Redditors. However, some online users expressed suspicion about the authenticity of the request. Redditor Kaarous posted: 'It's bogus. No CO [commanding officer] would ever, ever use a red pen for corrections on a leave form'
