Styling her way into our hearts
Singapore stylist-cum-designer, Sara VK, is working on a new flick Kavalai Vendam, and having a ball of a time.
Sara VK, a Singapore-based stylist and designer, has been making waves by working with the creme de la creme of Kollywood. She is now in town to work on the Kajal, Jiiva-starrer Kavalai Vendam.
“I started styling with Baana Kaathadi in 2009, when I won a Singaporean design reality show, much like Project Runway. My prize was a contract with Sathya Jyothi films and that’s how I worked in the movie with Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Atharvaa. And since then, there’s been no looking back. I shuttle between Singapore and Chennai for my job. I’m currently here as the official designer for the cast (except Kajal Aggarwal) of Kavalai Vendam,” she says. She goes on to tell us, “It’s been an amazing experience working with this young team.
The director is extremely cool and all of us tend to hang out after shoots. It’s been fun styling Jiiva since our taste in clothing matches, and shooting with the crew in Coonoor was very memorable,” she gushes.
Talking about what draws her to the city she says, “I feel very connected to Chennai, since it has been extremely warm and loving. I think the best part of the place is the people — right from those I meet at work, to juice vendors. That’s why I left my own label, friends, and family in Singapore to come here.” She goes on to talk about what she does when she’s not working — “I’m a huge foodie and I try a new restaurant almost everyday! One other thing I love about Chennai is the movie culture. In Singapore, people watch a movie maybe once in a couple of weeks but here it’s every alternate day. For a movie buff like me, this is perfect!”
She also has other projects in hand besides what she’s working on right now. “I have three releases this year and two new projects coming up. So I’m going to be here for at least another year,” she concludes.
