Online women’s retailer Touch Dolls keeps it in family
Despite a background in finance and business, Cyndi V. was inspired to launch Touch Dolls after struggling to find clothes that fit her body type
Straight out of Miami comes one of the most popular online fashion retailers for women—Touch Dolls. Known for high-quality material, their stylish designs, on-trend fashion and affordable price points, you would probably never guess that Touch Dolls is family owned and operated. Owned and founded by Miami native Cyndi V., for her the brand is undoubtedly personal. Despite a background in finance and business, Cyndi V. was inspired to launch Touch Dolls after struggling to find clothes that fit her body type.
“I always felt like clothing brands had unrealistic body type for minority women like Hispanic and black,” she says. “Even the clothes I would buy always needed to be tailored.”
After identifying a need not just specific to her, but relevant to her Miami community where the demographic of the population is more than 80% Latin and African American, Cyndi V. saw a demand for clothes that catered to women with diverse body types. Starting simply with dress designs that were made to hug, contour and shape a woman’s body, Touch Dolls soon grew to a massive business, selling clothes, shoes, handbags, and accessories.
But one priority Cyndi V. has always maintained was her business model. Owned and operated by herself and her husband, for the last eight years she has been adamant about preserving a small, family-owned business feel. Additionally, the husband and wife duo make an effort to hire minority women who need stable employment.
“I’m big on hiring women,” Cyndi V., says. “Most of the women I employ are single mothers so it’s important to give them secure work.”
