The tracks are all set to blaze with top drag racers and enthusiasts converging at the Taneja Aviation centre to compete against each other for top prizes across categories in two wheelers and four wheelers.
Rizwan Khan, a 28-year-old city based doctor who rides a BMW HP4 states, “I’m participating in the Drag Fest this Sunday. Although I’ve been racing for many years, I got into professional racing recently. I won the National Drag Racing Champion Spitfire by Federation of Motorsports Club of India held in Coimbatore last year. Drag racing is for those who love speed and I get an inexplicable high whenever I participate. I will be going on the 402 metres track to show my test of speed and skill in the least possible time. I’ve completed my earlier races in 9.8 seconds and this time I plan to beat my own record.”
Drag race enthusiasts now don’t need to go too far as our city is hosting its first Drag Fest at this airstrip. Vishwas SD, a national champion in the cross country rally and one of the Team 46 directors, shares, “It’s a pure passion for me and I was racing for TVS team.
Dragracing is very big in the US and now Ceat is making it big in Bengaluru too. Riders are coming in big numbers as all safety measures have been taken. There are different formats where the riders show their skills on superbikes and supercars. The ones with best technology and best timing will be placed first, second and third in the competition. It’s a forum where one can showcase skills.”
For fans like Mark Prakasham it’s all about watching the whole excitement. “Accurate world class timer devices and real time display will provide stat attack for fans like me that will capture highest achieved speed. I’ve heard there is a strong focus on safety, as the event will have round the clock measures to ensure a secure environment for the participants and fans alike!” You can also groove to the music by DJs at the venue.
