Heart-warming story behind Bengaluru man adopting six schools
Touching words cause massive change for many lives.
A Bengaluru man who lost his daughter keeps her memory alive by honouring her wish.
Mohan Raju's 16-year-old daughter Geetha died from Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, an inflammatory disease and kidney failure, The Better India reported.
However, before her death she expressed concern about children she noticed playing in unhygienic conditions at a government school. Confused, she questioned why this was so.
Those words prompted Mohan, a civilian employee of the Air Force Technical College (AFTC), Bengaluru, to adopt six government schools.
“When my innocent daughter raised the concerns regarding government school children, I thought they were not so important. But after her death, I wanted to do something for those poor children,” Mohan told New Indian Express.
Adding, “That is the reason why I embarked on the mission of providing a face lift to government schools one and a half years ago.”
The 53-year-old set up a charitable trust in his daughter's name. AFTC officers contributed towards the trust.
Now, government schools in Shanbhoganahalli, Karikoppa, Madegowdana Doddi, Konniganahalli and Vaddarahalli have been equipped with basic facilities they once lacked, thanks to the Sri Kumari Geetha Memorable Charitable Education Trust.
The trust also helps provide books, furniture and even provides guest lecturers to give interesting lessons to the children. An English course has also been made available.
Mohan often visits the schools to make sure they are being well maintained. The trust plans to adopt five more schools.
