‘No more’ Sujith’s pls…
Reacting to the tragic death, celebrities and city folks look for a solution.
For the last few days, Sujith is the one name we all heard. From youngsters to old people, the poor boy’s plight has been a continuous topic of discussion in city households.
Hope for Sujith’s rescue died giant machines were brought from far into the sorrow-soaked Nadukattupatti village in Tiruchirapalli district because the boring equipment had run into hard rock.
A few insights from experts:
Sudha Ramalingam, senior advocate, says, “Every tragedy seems to invoke a lot of feeling during the time when the plight is underway. Social, visual and print media bring so many emotional reactions to such plights. If they have a lasting impact it would reflect in preventive actions. But sorry to say that we move on to the next sensational story without learning lessons. Make civil society more participative in civic issues. Youth can ally themselves and do a quick survey of all borewells and other pits dug in their neighbourhood and ensure that they are all safely closed/sealed. Educate locals on safety issues and ensure that their elected representatives and the bureaucracy to do their jobs by checks and balances.”
Dr Saranya Jaikumar, educational psychologist says, “News about Sujith has broken everyone’s heart. In this situation, I would extend my deepest condolence to his family. Despite the failure of various attempts, I would still like to thank everyone who tried sincerely to save the child. According to me, a child falling into a bore well should never happen as it causes enormous physical and mental trauma to the child that sometimes may even become irreversible. Why should we let it happen and then why talk about ways of lifting the child out?? The only solution according to me is proper sealing of existing open bore wells and news ones in the future too. I am sure the government will soon take the necessary action. Let us trust and believe that it will not and should not happen in the future. After all, life is all about good hope. A good solution solves the problem, but the best solution is preventing the problem.”
Kanya Babu, co-founder of AIMS and a social activist, says, “It's failure for each one of us. Everyone should feel guilty for not rescuing Sujith. We are all educated but not literate. Just for the sake of society we are getting double and triple degrees. We live in such society where people are still taking selfies in front of graveyard, which is more irritable than anything. We need remedies rather than emotions and blaming dramas. Change should start within us first. We need to inculcate youngsters to react for right things and the youngsters have already started with this, recently we could see many youngsters have started indulging them self in lots of social activities. We need more awareness among the people and good technology to eradicate these kind of incidents. I hope we will get the proper solutions on this soon and in future no child should be victimised like this. Change should start within us first. Let change arise
