HOP'scotch glugs about town: Bengalureans love to party
The crawl after many a tipple is passe. It's now how the partying begins as Gen-Y takes to pub hopping with friends.
After a hard day at work, Bengalureans love to party and make merry. Be it a weekday or a weekend, pubs and resto-bars in the city are always crowded with the most hip crowd. But youngsters are always on the prowl for something new to look forward to — Enter pub crawls!
The concept which is still very new to the city is a rage in the West, and has been for ages. “There is a huge market abroad as tourists don’t know where to go,” explains Sai Shashank, who realised that the same was missing in the city. “There is always a huge influx of tourists and they don’t know what to do and where to go at night.”
Keeping that in mind, the idea was conceptualised. The point of the crawl is to meet new people and mingle so we organise a few games to break the ice. It also makes weekdays more fun,” explains the operations manager of the Bangalore Pub Crawl, who aims to make the concept an alternative to a party, where one doesn’t mingle with people outside their friends circle.
The activity which is already a huge fad among the young crowd in the city is also quite cheap on the pocket! “When people chill at nightclubs, they end up spending at least Rs 300 at each place. But people found this quite cheap because for Rs 1,000 each person gets a one drink at four different venues! Fun activities like beer pong, Fooseball, and even business interactions for start-up CEO’s and drinking games and an after party manages to keep people in the mood till wee hours” explains Lanwin Pais, the 23-year-old who organised Wolf of Church Street, which got an overwhelming response.
Sitting in the same place all night can get a little monotonous for people. “I loved that we were able to go to different places! And at every venue, we ended up meeting a new set of people because of the small activities and interactions that were organised. It was among the most fun nights I’ve had after work and is the best way to kick start the weekend” says Ashwathi Balakrishanan, a 23 year old who attended a pub crawl in the city recently.
