Hallelujah, it’s Halloween!
This Western concept has gained tremendous popularity over the years in India and today, it is being celebrated with gusto everywhere!
Today is Halloween and that is reason enough for youngsters in Bengaluru to go all out and dress in their favourite costumes. For the uninitiated, the practice of Halloween began over 2000 years ago by the Pagans. It is widely believed that this day opens the door between the dead and the living.
Over the decades, this Day has gained popularity all over the world, including India, where it is being celebrated today with much gusto. We speak to a few youngsters in Bengaluru to find out their plans.
Abhishek Shekhzilla, a content specialist, says his favourite character is Jason Vorhees from Friday The 13th. He obviously enjoys dressing up like his favourite character. Says Abhishek, “This western concept has trickled down to our side of the world. We enjoy dressing up and attending Halloween-themed parties as it is exciting to do so. Being a foodie, I also like to experiment with the Halloween-based theme food on this occasion as its a great way to connect food with this special day.”
Sanya Menon, a brand-head with a start-up, hosts her own party for Halloween and says,”Local youngsters jump at every opportunity to participate in theme-based Days or festivals and Halloween is hugely popular these days. We look forward to checking out the various venues that are hosting Halloween themed parties. This city is more than open to celebrating international days and festivals and Halloween is no exception. It gives us another excuse to party hard.”
Sneha James, communication specialist at a start up says, “A fascination with supernatural literature and TV series got me hooked on to the culture of Halloween. It’s a lot of fun to dress up as monsters from your favourite books, though now it’s become a lot more generic when it comes to dressing up for Halloween.” Speaking further on her plans, Sneha adds, “This year my sister and will decorate our home with a Halloween-based theme and also check out some of the parties happening in town. But the night will end with us catching up some classic horror movies,” she chuckles.
