Trick or treat time!
Bengaluru folk are set for a spooky night of fun as they gear up to celebrate Halloween today.
The city is set for a night of wolf howls, screams, carved pumpkins and whole lot of costumes! Halloween, a festival celebrated every year on this day, is dedicated to the dead including saints, martyrs and all the faithfully departed. Youngsters in the city too, are all geared up to celebrate the much-awaited day, and even use it as an excuse to go all out and dress as their favourite characters!
Pop culture characters seem to be the go-to options for most people who are going to be celebrating the evening. “Superheroes and comic book characters are the easiest because it’s all about fake blood, masks and capes,” laughs Prarthana Hari, a student at Mount Carmel College.
“I’m not a very big fan of trick-or-treating but I’ve been called the nerd of my class for quite a while. So I’m actually considering spooking people out a little by dressing up as Kim Kardashian – in a crop top and skirt, just to shock people a little,” smirks the student slyly.
The concept of trick-or-treat has also become quite popular in the city, and mostly so in apartment complexes. “All the residents of apartment complexes are sent out circulars much in advance to keep candy in stock and give it to youngsters and kids who come knocking on their doors,” says Simran J, a resident of the city who went dressed as the joker last year!
“I donned a suit and just painted my face white, and a tad bit of make-up. Party mania, a one-of –kind store where everything from fake blood, fake teeth, masks, wigs and everything creepy, is where most of the city gets their stuff from,” adds the youngster who is planning on dressing as a mime for this year’s event.
It’s time for the Batman-Catwoman and Superman-Superwoman pairings to move over, as the new ‘it couple’ seems to be Joker and Harley Quinn from the Suicide Squad. “The crazy duo have created quite the impact of badasses and are giving people couple goals,” says Aswathi Balakrishnan, who is looking forward to celebrating the night in full swing.
“I got a really coolcape and I do love dressing up and going all out, so I’m going to be dressed as a vampire with the eerie dark lipstick and some fake blood,” the corporate employee. “But caution should be taken to not overdo things in terms of make-up because there can be allergic reactions, or breakouts. Halloween is just one event in a year and it’s not worth risking your skin for,” cautions the 24 year old, in conclusion.
