Resting the dead in dignity
His vision is to help everyone not just those who need help living in security but also giving the dead their due respect.
Khaalid Ahamed, 23, established Uravugal in Chennai a year ago. “Everyone has to face death and it doesn't matter how old you are or where you come from.
Showing humanity to those who die in vain and poverty is the least we can do for them,” he says. He has helped in the burial of several unclaimed and unidentified bodies, including victims of infanticides. His vision is to help everyone not just those who need help living in security but also giving the dead their due respect.
“Uravugal is just one of the names of my platform. It is not just the dead but I want to help those who need help with shelter, food and clothing and we do so with the help of other organisations”. So far the organisation has helped bury over 140 unidentified dead bodies and has rescued several abandoned people and admitted them in old age homes. They have also launched an ambulance to help transport corpses belonging to the poor back to their homes (from out of station).
