Rock gets real
Bengaluru-based vocalist and composer Gautam Mahajan answers our quick-fire.
1. Biggest pet-peeves?
Lack of punctuality. It amazes me how many people are okay with coming late for pretty much everything.
2. Your most embarrassing incident onstage?
Well, I once got on stage for an impromptu jam with a guy I had never heard play before. While we agreed on the same song, it turns out, we started playing it in completely different keys. I realised how bad it was when I saw my room-mates hiding their heads in embarrassment in the crowd. I didn't get on stage for several weeks after that.
3. Three things you never leave home without, before a performance?
My guitar, my capo and my tuner.
4. What’s your wildest fantasy?
Quite a few actually. Most of which I can’t divulge here. But from a music perspective, it's more of a goal, less of a fantasy — I’d like to make playing music — instruments, recording, lessons, etc — affordable for everyone in India to help bring out the hidden talent that exists in the country.
5. One band that you’re in absolute awe of?
U2. The way they have reinvented themselves over the years, and their longevity, is absolutely inspiring.
6. One guilty pleasure you always succumb to?
Baskin Robbins ice cream. I could eat it all day, every day.
7. A trait of yours that not many people know about?
No such secret traits. People who know me know pretty much all there is to know about me.
8. If given a magic wand, what would I do first?
You don't need a wand to create magic.
9. A song that's on the loop right now?
Not a song, but Above and Beyond Group Therapy 163 has been on loop for the last few days
10. Your favourite movie and why?
There are quite a few actually. But the last movie I saw that really blew me away was Once, a musical romantic comedy. Anyone who loves music should definitely check it out.
