WARANGAL: The historic ‘Metla bavi’ near Warangal fort, that was brought to the notice of the officials recently will be turned into a tourist spot soon, said TS Tourism Development Corporation chairman P. Ramulu.
He inspected the renovation works of the intricately carved stepwell at Shiva Nagar on Monday.
Mr Ramulu said the well holds great historic value as the kings and queens of Kakatiya dynasty used to bathe there. He said the tourism department would take up the responsibility of bringing back the past glory of the temple.
“It is sad that a temple of such great importance and such astounding architecture has been neglected all these years. The TSTDC will ensure this place is developed as one more tourist spot in this historic city of Warangal. We will set up boards giving directions to this well. It will be named as ‘Rudrama Devi Bavi’,” he said.
Mr Ramulu said facilities like toilets, canteen, drinking water and a good road connecting the main road, besides other facilities, would be arranged soon.
“This well will soon become as famous as the Rani ki Vav stepwell in Gujarat,” he said.
Warangal East MLA Konda Surekha has allocated Rs 9.5 lakh for construction of inner and outer compound walls and railings. The construction of these walls has been completed and the dirty water inside the well also drained a few days back.
KUDA chairman M. Yadava Reddy, local archaeologist Aravind Arya Pakide and others were present.
