Visit My Mosque' evokes good response from youth
Hyderabad: ‘Visit My Mosque’ and Id Milap, organised by the city unit of the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO), at Azizia Masjid in Mehdipatnam, evoked good response. Open to people of all faiths, the event, which had a turnout of 200 persons, was aimed at dispelling misconceptions with regard to Islam and its practices, the organisers said.
SIO volunteers and mosque committee members took the visitors to various sections of the mosque like wazu khanu (ablution centre), where they were told of the ritual of ablution which is mandated before every prayer.
At the main prayer hall, they were explained about the ritual of azaan (call for prayer) and namaz.
Speaking at the event, Dr Osaid Ahmed, secretary, SIO, Hyderabad unit, said organising such events will promote unity, communal harmony and brotherhood.
Imtiyaz Hussain from Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Nampally, said that many people do not know aboud the insides of a mosque and the rituals performed there.
Placards explaining various Islamic concepts in English and Telugu were put up for visitors, most of whom were youngsters and IT professionals.
Later, they were presented with a brief explanation of various Islamic pillars like fasting, zakat and Haj, among others. The event culminated with detailed explanation of the significance of Ramzan and Id-ul-Fitr.
The guests were treated to a lunch, including the traditional Id dish ’sheer-khorma.’
