Warangal: A 17-year-old Intermediate student of Vibrant Junior College died by suicide at her hostel room, following which her family ransacked the college and sat on a dharna to seek justice at Nakkalagutta of Hanamkonda district on Thursday.
The victim was a first year MPC student from Kamalapur village of Mulugu district.
Police said that the student did not attend the study hour on Wednesday, and died by suicide in her room when her colleagues were away. Her hostel-mates who noticed her informed the college management who shifted the student to a hospital where the doctors declared her dead.
On learning of the suicide, her parents and relatives rushed to the college, accused the management of negligence and ransacked the office. They alter held a dharna along with the members of students and people’s organisations.
The police later reached the college. Under police security, the body of the student was shifted to the MGM Hospital for postmortem.
Students organisation leaders alleged that the college did not have permission but had admitted 400 students. The management was exerting pressure on the students, they said.
They demanded seizure of the college and justice to the parents of the student as well as a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the bereaved family.
Police officials registered a case on a complaint lodged by the student’s parents and started an investigation.
