Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh CID has booked a case against Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandra Babu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and others, charging them with unleashing a fake campaign on the Land Titling Act.
The case was filed following an order of the Election Commission. The CID filed a criminal case in which Naidu is A-1 and Lokesh is A-2.
The case was registered at the CID Police Station in Mangalagiri under various sections of the IPC on a complaint of YSR Congress MLA Malladi Vishnu. The FIR was registered on the basis of evidence, including a pen drive with audio files.
MLA Vishnu of Vijayawada Central assembly constituency reported that voters were receiving IVR calls with messages urging them not to vote for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and instead support Chandrababu Naidu. The messages claimed that the Land Titling Act would result in voters losing their wealth and land records.
The YSRC alleged that TD, with a mala fide intention to portray YS Jagan as a land grabber, was trying to falsify the information regarding the 'Land Titling Act' proposed by the state government.
MLA Vishnu said, "The IVR calls were allegedly made by the TD as part of their political campaign. The content of the calls was considered a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) because it spread false information and made personal attacks on political rivals."
The CID, which registered the FIR on the orders of the EC, under section 171 (F)(G), 188,505(2) read with 120 (b) IPC, has taken up the investigation.
A case has been registered against 10 people along with Chandrababu and Lokesh. A case has also been registered against the agencies that made the IVRS calls.
The prime accused is Chandrababu Naidu, the second accused is his son Nara Lokesh, apart from the electronic campaign team of TD, maker of IVR call and others.
The police came to the TD state office and handed over the notice.
Earlier, AP additional chief electoral officer MN Harendhira Prasad issued instructions to AP CID additional DG to conduct the investigation regarding the ‘false’ propaganda of TD on the Land Titling Act. Following the same, AP CID registered the case and started the investigation.
