Vijayawada: Minister for health Satya Kumar Yadav has assured full support from Andhra Pradesh in the national effort to make India free from tuberculosis (TB).

The AP health minister attended a video conference led by Union minister for health J.P. Nadda from New Delhi on Saturday. During the conference, Satya Kumar assured that all efforts would be made to ensure the success of the ‘Nikshay Shivir: 100 Days Intensive Campaign,’ a key component of the National TB Elimination Programme, which is being implemented in 347 districts across the country.

Nadda highlighted that nearly 25.52 lakh TB patients are currently in the country, with an incidence of 179 TB patients per 100,000 people. He urged the state health minister to take necessary measures to effectively carry out the TB elimination campaign in Vizianagaram district.

In response, the state health minister instructed health officials to implement effective measures to control tuberculosis and reduce the mortality rate, as there are 76,590 TB patients in the state. He emphasised the need for the successful execution of the TB elimination campaign in Vizianagaram.

As part of the Nikshay Shivir campaign, the state health authorities stated that TB testing will be conducted for the general public, with special focus on individuals over 60 years of age, HIV patients, those who consume alcohol, and individuals who have previously been infected with TB. Additionally, close family members of these individuals will also be tested to monitor their health status.
