21-Year-Old Nursing Student Dies by Suicide in Hyderabad Hostel

Hyderabad:A 21-year-old nursing student from West Bengal died by suicide in her hostel room in Nacharam on Wednesday. The Nacharam police registered a case and sent the body for postmortem.

The victim was identified as Sanjima Kathun of West Bengal. She was pursuing first year in nursing at a private institute and was staying at its hostel along with her sister and a cousin who study in the same college.

Police said Sanjima attended classes on Wednesday and returned to her hostel room by 3.30 pm. Her sister Firdousi Kathun went to the room 30 minutes later, and found it locked. She knocked on the door several times and, on failing to get a response, the hostel officials.

With the help of other staff, they broke open the door and found Sanjima died. Firdousi later learned from their cousin Jasmina, a second-year student at the same college, that their parents had reprimanded Sanjima over a personal amtter.

The body was moved to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem analysis and the family was informed pertaining the death. The body was moved to West Bengal on Thursday. A case was registered under the BNSS and was being investigated, said Narsingi sub-inspector Sk Mybelly.
