Anantapur:The Badvel Court on Friday sentenced three years imprisonment to six persons for harassing a woman and abetting her to commit suicide at Dulavaripalli in Kalasapadu mandal in Kadapa district ten years ago. Police said Venkata Lakshmamma, 38, was a widow residing with her daughter and son-in-law in Dulavaripalli village.

A group of six persons, who were her distant relatives, made bad publicity about her character. They abetted her suicide by intensifying the character assassination. Fed up with the humiliation, Venkata Lakshmamma committed suicide on October 16, 2014, at her residence in the village. Porumamilla circle police registered a case against the six persons based on a complaint by the deceased's younger daughter Malleswari.

The Badvel Court on Friday pronounced the verdict by sentencing three years imprisonment and a `500 penalty for P. Veeramma, P. Pedda Veeramma, P. Venkata Subbamma, P. Venkataiah, P. Venkatramaiah and P. Veeramma after charges proved against them. Kadapa SP Harshavardhna Raju appreciated the Porumamilla and Kalasapadu police for their efforts to get justice for the victim's family.
