Hyderabad:Police arrested four scribes for allegedly circulating provocative and false information on social media with an intention to disturb the peace during the recent Milad-un-Nabi procession.

Police identified the accused as Shaik Shoukat Ahmed, chairman of 5-in News, Mahesh Kumar Upadhyay, chairman of 9 Bharat Samachar Communication Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd, Sandeep Bohra and Naresh Vyas.

A special team arrested them under the direction of police commissioner C.V. Anand and police claimed that they confessed that their intention was to create feelings of enmity between religious communities.

Police said the team, comprising the Shanynatgunj police, Special Branch (SB), cybercrime police, learned that on September 19, one Mahesh Upadhyay posted a video of BJP MLA Raja Singh purportedly claiming that 500 people of one community were attacking the houses of another community in Goshamahal. This was telecast on the 9 Bharat Samachar Whatsapp group. It was forwarded by Naresh Vyas to other groups, southwest zone DCP Chandra Mohan said.

He said Ahmed posted a video of a lathicharge at Charminar on the E20 news channel Whatsapp group which was forwarded by Naresh Vyas and Sandeep Bohra to different groups.
