Hyderabad: The Khairatabad police have registered a cheating case against one M. Saikumar of Asifnagar, who collected around Rs 10 lakh from 30 persons by promising them jobs as sweepers with the GHMC.

He made the victims believe that he was close to a supervisor ‘Rajasekhar’ at the Khairatabad GHMC office, and collected amounts ranging from Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 from each victim for jobs. He said the money was for the registration fee.

He then gave them fake ID cards and made them sweep the roads near Ravindra Bharathi and surrounding areas for a few days and disappeared. Following this, some of the victims including Kalavati and Kanugala Sunitha inquired about Rajasekhar at the Khairatabad office but were told that there was no such person.

Realising that they had been cheated, Kalavati lodged a complaint following which the police registered a cheating case against Saikumar and began investigations, said Khairatabad sub-inspector B. Ramana.
