Kothagudem:Bhadrachalam gram panchayat officials on Thursday demolished more than 15 shops that were built over a drainage canal after laying concrete slabs over it. Officials stated that all structures illegally built on the drainage canal would be removed.

Meanwhile, residents of Nehrunagar, located near the irrigation tank Saddala Cheruvu, in Suryapet district prevented officials from the revenue, municipal, and irrigation departments from surveying houses within the full tank level (FTL) and buffer zone.

Sensing the tension among the residents, the officials left without marking the houses. Nehrunagar consists of 150 houses, and residents were alarmed by the officials' actions, especially in light of recent demolitions by HYDRAA.

Residents stated that they have been living in these houses for the past 50 years. Some families had even recently rebuilt their homes, investing lakhs of rupees.
