Docs call off strike, government agrees to fulfill all demands

Hyderabad: The Telangana Junior Doctors Association on Wednesday called off their strike after the minister of health, medical and family welfare, C Damodar Rajanarsimha agreed to all their demands, saying their demands were justified. The junior doctors felicitated the minister to express their gratitude.


The health minister said, "We should all appreciate the government and most importantly, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for taking swift action towards fulfilling the demands." The health department earlier in the day issued a sanction order to the director of medical education towards administrative expenditure of up to Rs204.8 crore for civil works in Osmania, Gandhi and Kakatiya Medical Colleges.

Of this, Rs121.9 crore was sanctioned to Osmania for construction of girls, boys and dental hostels and laying of concrete roads. About Rs79.5 crore was sanctioned to Gandhi Medical College for construction of separate girls, boys and dental hostels as well as laying down of roads. About Rs3.45 crore was sanctioned to Kakatiya Medical College for construction
of roads.

"The government is committed to building a healthy Telangana. The junior doctors’ demands, never addressed before in such a swift manner, were fulfilled in a matter of 10 days. The budget release order will resolve the issues of junior doctors and other medical staff," the minister said.

He also mentioned the food safety inspections and reiterated that those violating the FSSAI Act will be strictly health with quality food, food labs, mobile food labs.

Dr Dipankar, head of TJUDA Osmania unit, brought up the issue of a new building for OSG to which the minister replied by saying that the matter is sub judice. The old building is part of heritage hence needs to be preserved. The government is committed towards a new structure but will ponder over the location.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, the minister assured that the 15% reservation given to AP students will be automatically scrapped from this year due to completion of 10 years of Telangana formation.
