Godavari River rises to 43.9 feet in Bhadrachalam, prompting the first warning; officials open Kinnerasani project gates for safety

Bhadrachalam: Officials issued the first warning after the water level in the Godavari reached 43.9 feet here on Wednesday. An estimated 9.3 lakh cusecs of water was flowing in the river and officials opened five gates of the Kinnerasani project to release water downstream.

The reservoir had water at 404 feet, and the storage was recorded as 7.5 tmc ft as against gross storage capacity of 8.4 tmc feet.

Superintendent of police Rohith Raju asked the people, in view of the heavy rain and increasing water level in the Godavari, to not venture to the river. He asked the people to call the police in case of any emergency.
