Free training in floods rescue measures
Hyderabad: After informing IT firms to stagger office timings when it rains heavily, the GHMC from Monday started training people living in low-lying areas in various measures to be taken up if their houses were inundated during the monsoon
On Monday, 160 volunteers were trained in rescue works using outboard motor boats at Indira Park. Other measures to be taken up in the event of inundation were taught at the disaster management training centre in Nagole.
The training was held by Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams of the GHMC’s Directorate of Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV&DM).
More training sessions, which are being run free of cost. will be held, and those interested in participating should contact K. Shyamsunder Reddy, station fire officer, on 7981665687, said an EV&DM release.
The directorate said community preparedness and spreading awareness were among the essential measures for disaster risk reduction. “We are training people on disaster management as a part of the monsoon preparedness. It cannot be linked to lack of infrastructure or missing deadlines of projects,” said a senior official from the GHMC.
