Osmania University scholars emphasised the need to integrate Indian Knowledge Systems into modern education
Hyderabad: Scholars and educators at Osmania University discussed the transformative role of Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) in shaping today’s educational and intellectual landscape, calling for a renewed focus on India’s epistemological roots. The National Conference on “Revival and Interpretation of the Epistemological Roots of Indian Knowledge Systems in the Light of the Modern Intellectual Landscape” drew eminent thinkers from across the country, united in their vision to integrate ancient wisdom into modern academia.
Chief Guest Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan, vice-chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, reflected on the rich insights embedded in Indian knowledge traditions, encouraging attendees to explore and apply these ancient ideas within contemporary educational frameworks. Prof. G. B. Reddy, director of PGRRCDE, who presided over the event, shared that India’s legal systems are deeply influenced by these historical knowledge bases, reinforcing their significance in the modern context. Prof. Madhusudan Penna, director of the Sanskrit Academy, delivered the valedictory address, focusing on the scientific and philosophical depth of IKS and its relevance for present-day learning.
Guests of honour, including Prof. Sriram Venkatesh, secretary of TGCHE and Prof. G. Mallesham, dean of development and UGC affairs at Osmania University, spoke on the need to incorporate IKS into university curricula. Prof. Rajesh Kumar, dean of the faculty of education, spoke about the value of IKS methodologies in fostering academic innovation. Conveners Prof. Ravindranath K. Murthy and Prof. T. Mrunalini highlighted the collaborative effort to reawaken India’s intellectual heritage and pursue the vision of India as “Vishwaguru.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Kumar Molugaram, the newly appointed vice-chancellor, announced leadership changes at Osmania University, with Prof. G. Naresh Reddy taking over as registrar and Prof. S. Jithender Kumar Naik stepping into the role of officer on special duty (OSD).
