Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Rejects BJP's Resignation Demand

LoP R. Ashok said as many as 86,000 applications were received by MUDA for distribution of sites but none of the common man were allotted sites by MUDA

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday asked Opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on what was the need for him to resign since he has no role in the alleged large scale irregularities in the distribution of sites in Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) in Mysuru city, the home town of Chief Minister.

Earlier, BJP leaders led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly R. Ashok, BJP State president B.Y. Vijayendra, among others, tried to lay siege to the residence of Chief Minister in Bengaluru city, demanded resignation of the Chief Minister and also to hand over the irregularities in distribution of sites to sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation.

LoP R. Ashok said as many as 86,000 applications were received by MUDA for distribution of sites but none of the common man were allotted sites by MUDA. But, the Chief Minister’s family was allotted 60 sites in place of 15 sites. Ashok said to take-up the issue on the floor of the assembly.

Responding to the demand of BJP leaders, the Chief Minister said a probe has been ordered under a senior IAS officer to look into the alleged irregularities in MUDA and once a submit is submitted to the State Government, a decision will be initiated.

Regarding resignation demanded by BJP leader Ashok, Chief Minister said “Will Ashok resign since he is accused of irregularities in regularisation of lands. He has secured bail in the case.”

Over the fraudulent transactions in the accounts of Valmiki Development Corporation under the State Government, Siddaramaiah said the Special Investigation Team is investigating the case while sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are also conducting its probe in the alleged fraudulent transactions in the accounts of the Union Bank of India.

Adding he said the report has to come and a charge sheet has to be filed to initiate action. Without any report, he questioned “How can action be initiated?”

In Channapatna town of Ramnagar district, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told reporters that the Government will answer to BJP leaders on the floor of the assembly and stated that irregularities in MUDA took place during the regime of BJP in the State.
