Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta has strongly criticized the current state of the Bantwal Congress faction, nurtured by former minister Ramanath Rai, claiming that it is now dependent on the support of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI).

In a significant development during the Bantwal Municipality elections on Thursday, Congress councilor Vasu Poojary was elected as President, while SDPI's Monis Ali secured the position of Vice President.

The Congress-SDPI combine emerged victorious with a 15-13 vote margin, defeating the BJP candidate. The council comprises 27 members, though one seat is currently vacant following a Congress councillor's resignation. Both Congress and BJP hold 11 seats each, with the SDPI controlling 4.

Addressing the media after the election results, Capt. Chowta remarked, "True to its nature, the Congress has forged an alliance with the SDPI, clinching the President and Vice President positions in the Bantwal Municipality. This alliance sends a clear message to the public about the Congress’s chosen partners."

"For years, we have been warning about the Congress's associations. Today, the people of Bantwal have witnessed it firsthand. The SDPI, which is the political wing of the Popular Front of India (PFI), has openly collaborated with the Congress. The Congress's actions at this point are beyond disappointing," he said.
