Karimnagar: Backward class welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday ordered officials to remain on high alert in view of heavy rains pounding the state. The minister said this after inspecting the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir. He was accompanied by MLAs Dr K. Satyanarayana and Medipalli Sathyam and district collector Pamela Satpathy here in Karimnagar on Sunday.

The minister told officials to identify flood affected areas and shift people to rehabilitation centres. With heavy rains, lakes, tanks and reservoirs are overflowing. With heavy inflow of water from Mid Manair, Moya Tummeda and Mula Wagu into the LMD, its water level reached 14 tmcs against its full capacity of 24 tmcs.

With the filling up of MMD, LMD, Ranganayaka Sagar, Mallanna Sagar and Kondapochamma reservoirs, water can be supplied to last ayucut of Kodada region, he observed.

With plenty of water available in the reservoirs, there will be no problem for the farming sector. Officials of Karimnagar Municipal Corporation (KMC) are on high alert and are clearing water-logging found in certain colonies under KMC limits.
