Bhopal: A teacher of a government school in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district was suspended for falsely citing the death of a Class three student to take leave, officials said on Wednesday.

Heeralal Patel, posted at government primary school Chikir Ka Tota under Naigarhi tehsil, recorded in the school registrar on November seven that Jitendra Kori, student of Class three, died and he was going to attend his funeral, official sources said.

The family members of the student learnt about the incident on November 28 when a photograph of the teacher’s note in the school registrar went viral on the social media groups of the local villagers.

This angered the student’s father who lodged a complaint with the local police accusing the teacher of declaring his son dead despite him being alive, according to the sarpanch of Chakrahan Tola village Rajesh Pratap Singh.

According to Mr Singh, the student’s grandfather Harivansh Kori passed away on November 27. But the teacher made a note in the school registrar that Jitendra died and he was going to attend his funeral.

The faux pas by the teacher led to his suspension.

Mauganj district collector Ajey Pratap Singh said that the teacher was suspended and a probe was ordered into it.
