Kakinada: The police officials formed six special teams to nab former MLA of Denduluru and Telugu Desam leader Chintamaneni Prabhakar and 18 other accused.

A Telugu Desam agent in Koppulavarigudem village in Pedavegi mandal of Eluru district injured a YSRC agent, S. Ravi, in the polling booth on May 13. Pedavegi police took the accused, Rajasekhar, into custody. But Chintamaneni Prabhakar, along with his followers, came to the police station and took Rajasekhar out with him by pushing the police officials.

On the next day, the Pedavegi police arrested the accused, Rajasekhar, and sent him to remand. But they also booked criminal cases against Prabhakar and the other 18 accused. The Nuziveedu DSP G. Lakshmaiah, said that though the circle inspector has tried to stop Prabhakar from taking the accused, Prabhakar did not heed his voice and took the accused from the police station. He said that the Pedavegi police registered cases against Prabhakar and his followers.

He said that Denduluru constituency is hypersensitive, and the police and election officials are conducting Grama Sabhas in the villages to caution the people not to indulge in any criminal activities. He said, “In view of preventing post-counting violence, all steps are being taken.” He said that people who have a criminal history would not be allowed to work as counting agents. He warned the people of all parties not to burst crackers after completing the counting. He said that social media users should not post provocative statements in WhatsApp groups or other social media groups. He said that petrol bunk owners should not sell the petrol in bottles.
