Hyderabad: Counselling for seat allocation in medical colleges, which was supposed to start on Saturday, was postponed by the Medical CounselLing Committee until further notice. The new date is likely to be announced after the next hearing in the Supreme Court regarding the discrepancies in the NEET-UG,on July 8.

The postponement, along with uncertainty over whether there would be a retest, have made left the students restlessness and disappointed.

Aditya Yadav, who scored 638 out of 720 marks in NEET-UG, said: I am hopeful to get a seat in a good college. However, the delay in the admission process is frustrating. My friends and I want it all to get over soon. Some are even saying that we would be happy to get even a bad college but at least it will all be over.”

He told Deccan Chronicle that several students who had received marks around 350 marks and were essentially on the borderline were suffering from greater frustration and restlessness. "For them, the process is both infuriating and testing. They are not getting any certainty on whether they will make it to any colleges or not," Yadav said.

Moreover, if the exam is re-conducted — several students have moved the Supreme Court for a re-test, which the Centre has opposed — Yadav said he would have to rejoin a coaching institute as studying at home was not possible. “I am in favour of a re-exam but it is not fair for students like me who have to go through it all twice due to no fault of ours,” he said.

Burra Adithya from Karimnagar, who scored 510 without coaching, and while helping his parents on the farm, said he was not in favour of a re-exam. “They are playing with students’ patience. The whole schedule has been stretched for two months and now further delay is making my family impatient. I have to work harder as I have no access to coaching. It takes double the effort than other students,” he said.
