Raipur: In a replay of a funny scene in the popular web series ‘Panchayat 3’, a pigeon released as a symbol of peace at the official Independence Day function at Mungeli in Chhattisgarh crashed on the ground, instead of flying, leaving the social media abuzz with sarcastic comments.

The pigeons released on the occasion by chief guest Punnulal Mohle, BJP MLA and former minister, and Mungeli district collector Rahul Deo took flight, but the one set free by the local superintendent of police Girija Shankar Jaiswal lounged to the ground, causing discomfiture to him as well as other dignitaries present at the dais.

The organisers had however saved the situation by promptly arranging another pigeon for the police officer to release on the occasion.

Incidentally, the social media had a field day following the incident with users flooding them with sarcastic comments and laughing emojis while referencing the web series “Panchayat 3”.

A post on a social media platform read, “And SP sahib was probably going to look over his shoulder and reprimand ‘Bam Bahadur’”.

Mr Jaiswal has meanwhile taken strong exception to the ‘fiasco’ and wrote a letter to the Mungeli district seeking action against the officer responsible for it.

In his letter, the SP said, “During an event of national importance like Independence Day, the incident of a pigeon falling on the ground was prominently broadcast on social media. The situation was created due to the presentation of a sick pigeon for flying in the main flag hoisting event at the district level. If this incident had happened with the chief guest, the situation could have been more unpleasant”.

He recalled that the concerned officers were assigned with different responsibilities to make the event a success at a meeting called before the function.

The officer assigned with the responsibility of arranging the pigeons had not discharged his duty properly, he said and sought disciplinary action against him.

In a scene of the popular web series, Vidhayak (MLA) ji, a character in the flick, releases a pigeon wishing for prosperity and peace in Phulera village. But, instead of flying, the pigeon falls on the ground.

The script of the web drama builds a character named Bam Bahadur, the supplier of the pigeon to the organisers of the event, to shift the blame on him for the incident, as it happened in the Mungeli event.
