Telangana: Congress to boost women's power in politics via ‘Shakti Abhiyan’
Nearly 100 women leaders including a few men associated with ‘Shakti Abhiyan’ from across the country will participate in the event.

ADILABAD: The Congress is planning to launch ‘Shakti Abhiyan’ in the country under which it wants to promote women's leadership from the grassroots level through the Indira Fellowship programme.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi will personally supervise the programme.
The first national convention of ‘Shakti Abhiyan’ will be held for three days in Adilabad beginning December 4. The participants will focus on women's issues, their political situations in light of recent elections and how to hone women's leadership from the grassroots level.
Congress’ women leaders from across the country will interact with adivasis and stay with them in their houses to know their life and living conditions from the ground. For this, the party has identified Khandala village in Adilabad rural mandal.
Nearly 100 women leaders including a few men associated with ‘Shakti Abhiyan’ from across the country will participate in the event. Rahul Gandhi’s mission to enhance women's participation in politics is reaching rural areas after serious efforts last year.
The Shakti Abhiyan’s national chairman Mani Sharma and national coordinator Dr Salla Soujanya, Telangana coordinator Shivalal Nethikar and minister for rural development Seethakka and Samskutika Saradhi chairperson Gummadi Vennela will be the guests at the convention.
Under Indira Fellowship, the party selected leaders from various fields and it gave them tickets to contest in parliament and Assembly elections.
The party will give tickets to women working in Shakti Abhiyan to contest in local body elections in Telangana.
Preethi, an Indira Fellow from Chattisgarh, said this is a first-of-its-kind programme aimed at enhancing women's participation in politics.
