Vana Mahotsavam sets 20 cr plantation target

Hyderabad: The Telangana forest department has set itself a target to plant 20.02 crores of saplings this year as part of the Vana Mahotsavam programme, The drive was launched on Wednesday by forests and environment minister Konda Surekha in Khammam district.
Joining her in the programme was minister for information and public relations Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, while in Peddapalli district, the drive was inaugurated by minister D Sridhar Babu.
Surekha and Srinivas Reddy planted saplings in Gollagudem village in Sathupalli forest division. The target for this year for Khammam is 31 lakh saplings of which 33,000 would be planted in 20 hectares in the first phase. On the first day, the ministers, officials and students planted 400 saplings of different species including neem, tamarind, sacred fig, jamun, and bamboo.
