Vijayawada: Vijayawada Eastern bypass envisaged on the Chennai-Kolkata highway has received in-principle clearance following a meeting between Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and union highways minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi on Thursday.

The construction of the bypass will allow traffic towards Kolkata and Chennai to move smoothly without entering the Vijayawada city. In particular, this will decongest traffic within Vijayawada city, particularly at important junctions like Ramavarapadu and Benz Circle.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) stated that Nitin Gadkari not only cleared the Vijayawada Eastern bypass, he also approved construction of Outer Ring Road (ORR) encircling Amaravati capital city and a flyover from NTR Health University to Nidamanuru.
When contacted, a senior National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) official, who chose to remain anonymous, clarified: "We are aware of the meeting between the union highways minister and the AP Chief Minister and approval of Vijayawada Eastern bypass and Amaravati ORR projects. However, we have received no official communication from the NHAI head office.”
The NHAI maintained that they have no information regarding sanctioning of the flyover from NTR Health University to Nidamanuru in Vijayawada city.
Vijayawada Eastern bypass road will span over approximately 50 kilometres, starting from Pottipadu toll plaza in Krishna district and culminating at Chinakakani in Guntur district.
The office of Vijayawada MP Kesineni Chinni underlined that citizens of Vijayawada can heave a sigh of relief with centre approving construction of Eastern bypass and flyover from NTR Health University to Nidamanuru.
“More details regarding the two projects will be available in the coming days,” a spokesman for the MP disclosed.
