Thiruvananthapuram: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), established to probe the sexual assault complaints made by several women in the Malayalam film industry, interrogated actor Siddique on Monday.
He was questioned regarding the rape case filed following the allegations of a young actress. Siddique was grilled for three hours by the SIT and subsequently released. He has been instructed to appear again on October 12.
The Supreme Court had granted interim protection from arrest to actor Siddique in a rape case last week. During his anticipatory bail plea hearing, the court restricted the Special Investigation Team (SIT) from taking the actor into custody for two weeks. Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi represented Siddique.
The counsel for Siddique argued that the survivor filed a complaint against the actor eight years after the alleged crime occurred in December 2016.
The rape case was registered based on a complaint filed by a young actor who accused Siddique of sexual assault in 2016. At the age of 21, the actor had attended a function at a local theatre in Thiruvananthapuram for the preview of the Malayalam film "Sukhamairikkatte."
After the function, Siddique invited her to a well-known hotel in the city centre to discuss aspects related to the film. " I was locked in a room. He abused me physically and told me it was okay if I didn't allow him to cross the limits," she recollected.
