Action Sought to Resolve Issues Faced by 2.50 Lakh Village Volunteers
Vijayawada: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has written to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, urging action on issues affecting 2.5 lakh village and ward secretariat volunteers. CPI(M) state secretary V. Srinivasa Rao highlighted concerns over their welfare and financial security, citing delays in salary payments and unfulfilled promises of wage increases.
Rao reminded the government of its election manifesto pledge to raise the volunteers' honorarium to Rs.10,000 per month. Despite their vital roles over the past five years, many volunteers, including those with degrees and postgraduate qualifications, continue to serve on minimal wages amid high unemployment.
The CPI(M) has demanded immediate settlement of salary arrears, implementation of the promised wage hike, and guarantees of job security for all volunteers. They also called for the reversal of forced resignations and reinstatement of affected volunteers, urging the government to prioritise their welfare and stability.
